Received this along with The Legend of Zelda: Encyclopedia as a Christmas present。 I think the perfect book would have elements of both, and I'm sure I never would have bought either if left to my own devices, but I'm glad to have received them as gifts。 The only complaint I have about this one is that, as it was published to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the Zelda franchise (2021 is the 35th anniversary) when the most recent game was Skyward Sword, it has a LOT of stuff about Skyward Sw Received this along with The Legend of Zelda: Encyclopedia as a Christmas present。 I think the perfect book would have elements of both, and I'm sure I never would have bought either if left to my own devices, but I'm glad to have received them as gifts。 The only complaint I have about this one is that, as it was published to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the Zelda franchise (2021 is the 35th anniversary) when the most recent game was Skyward Sword, it has a LOT of stuff about Skyward Sword and not as much stuff about every Zelda that preceded it。 The first third or so of the book is basically "Skyward Sword in detail," and the last 30 pages or so are a manga-style comic of the Skyward Sword backstory that leads the ancient people of Hyrule from the surface to the sky。 So。。。 it's a lot of Skyward Sword。If you've been playing Zelda books here and there through your life, I know you'd enjoy this overall, too。 The convoluted timeline of every Zelda up to this point is laid out in detail, with a significant section about each game that flows from one to the next。 What I enjoyed the most is the in-progress sketches and early designs for the games in the series。 It was interesting to see what ideas were considered and eventually discarded before the final games, including entire characters as well as designs of this or that character。 A Link to the Past had a sketch called "science fiction princess" Zelda, which maybe was just the doodle of a bored person or maybe is a sign there were early considerations of a very different version of the game that we eventually saw。 The in progress stuff extended to game mechanics, too, with the original game that started it all having some design documents outlining how the designers would go about choosing which monsters ended up being present in which dungeon。 Not having been in game design at any point in my life, this sort of nitty gritty for any game is not something I ever spend a lot of time thinking about, so mostly it's just cool to see some of the proto-game stuff, knowing what I do about the finished product。 It's generous with screenshots to jog your memory。 I could hear music I haven't thought of in years pop into my head when I saw some of them。 。。。more

This was, at the time of it's release, the most comprehensive book about the background of the Legend of Zelda series。 A resource book with many colored pictured and a detailed history both of the real world development as well as the in game history and lore。 As such it settled a decades long dispute about the timeline of the games and revealed that it wasn't in fact a single timeline, but was in fact three branches。 Nintendo had long stated there was a timeline but never revealed it to the pub This was, at the time of it's release, the most comprehensive book about the background of the Legend of Zelda series。 A resource book with many colored pictured and a detailed history both of the real world development as well as the in game history and lore。 As such it settled a decades long dispute about the timeline of the games and revealed that it wasn't in fact a single timeline, but was in fact three branches。 Nintendo had long stated there was a timeline but never revealed it to the pubic until this book。 With the subsequent release of Breath of the Wild however, it's place on the timeline has become muddled。 。。。more

If your a big fan like me this is worth the read。 I am so humbled to have been graced with such a stunning game and story creation。 I've loved Link and his journey since I played Ocarina of time at 8 years old。 Begged for the game at the time in was £50 and that was a lot for a game (don't bat an eyelid now)。 I couldn't afford it so I used to rent it from blockbuster, some of my happiest memories getting this home and playing in。 I didn't know much of the earlier concepts and only played a hand If your a big fan like me this is worth the read。 I am so humbled to have been graced with such a stunning game and story creation。 I've loved Link and his journey since I played Ocarina of time at 8 years old。 Begged for the game at the time in was £50 and that was a lot for a game (don't bat an eyelid now)。 I couldn't afford it so I used to rent it from blockbuster, some of my happiest memories getting this home and playing in。 I didn't know much of the earlier concepts and only played a hand full of the other games (depending on which console I had 😂)。 For me though Ocarina and Mask of Majora N64 child and just love it。 The detail and concept art is amazing。 。。。more

This is great for Zelda fans。 The art, the information, not to mention the exclusive manga that offers (canonically-questionable) context as to the situation of Skyward Sword (which was new back when it first came out)。 It even answers a certain question or two that the fans could only speculate on previously。 I loved it and, if you're a gamer like me, you probably will, too。 This is great for Zelda fans。 The art, the information, not to mention the exclusive manga that offers (canonically-questionable) context as to the situation of Skyward Sword (which was new back when it first came out)。 It even answers a certain question or two that the fans could only speculate on previously。 I loved it and, if you're a gamer like me, you probably will, too。 。。。more

Awesome overview of the Zelda games with some really interesting tidbits about the franchise。 Only wish that they’d give a more specific place in the franchise timeline to Breath of the Wild。

This is a great collectors item to have if you enjoy The Legend of Zelda series of games。 It covers the histories and legends of the lore and fills in story gaps。 It also is the first place the official timeline was established。

It's interesting if you want to have a little more of an understanding of the insane and confusing lore of the Legend of Zelda series。 Regardless, it's only going to make sense to fans of the series, so if you don't play the series and have no intention to do so, I suggest you don't read it。 It's interesting if you want to have a little more of an understanding of the insane and confusing lore of the Legend of Zelda series。 Regardless, it's only going to make sense to fans of the series, so if you don't play the series and have no intention to do so, I suggest you don't read it。 。。。more

A perfectly fine book chronicling the history of the Legend of Zelda franchise。 My fiancé is a huge fan and got this as a Christmas gift so I figured, since I haven’t played the games I could at least catch up on the lore。 For a non-fan, this shit is CONFUSING。 But we got through it in the end, and I remember about 40% of what I read。 Not bad, I’d say!

Some beautiful and simple artwork from Zelda。 I only played the first Nintendo version of this game so I don't know the entire history of the game。 I did notice that Ganon is still around in some form or another。 Some beautiful and simple artwork from Zelda。 I only played the first Nintendo version of this game so I don't know the entire history of the game。 I did notice that Ganon is still around in some form or another。 。。。more

An instant 5-star read for me。 I’ve always loved The Legend of Zelda series, and having the entire franchise chronicled and explained in-depth was a fantastic way to spend a Summer afternoon reading。 If you’re a fan of the series, I can’t recommend picking this up more。 You’ll certainly enjoy it。

I got much more into Zelda games again since quarantine started。 I played my first Zelda game almost 20 years ago and have been a fan ever since。 I haven't followed the series that closely but after listening to a podcast and playing more of the games I got much more into the franchise。 I enjoyed reading about some of the history and seeing how the timelines play out but I did find some areas to be quite dull。 A lot of attention was given to Skyward Sword (as it was the most recent release) and I got much more into Zelda games again since quarantine started。 I played my first Zelda game almost 20 years ago and have been a fan ever since。 I haven't followed the series that closely but after listening to a podcast and playing more of the games I got much more into the franchise。 I enjoyed reading about some of the history and seeing how the timelines play out but I did find some areas to be quite dull。 A lot of attention was given to Skyward Sword (as it was the most recent release) and Ocarina of Time (rightfully so)。 It just wasn't spaced out well between all of the games。 I did enjoy seeing the evolution of the stories and characters over time。 。。。more

An absolute must-have for any die-hard Zelda fan。 It was so great to see many of the character designs and thought which went into the making of many Zelda games。 Another aspect of this book I enjoyed was seeing the official Zelda timeline。 Until this book came out, fans had only speculated what the timeline may be and how the Zelda games actually pieced together。 Thankfully, those questions were answered in the section of the book which broke down the entire timeline, from start to finish。 I al An absolute must-have for any die-hard Zelda fan。 It was so great to see many of the character designs and thought which went into the making of many Zelda games。 Another aspect of this book I enjoyed was seeing the official Zelda timeline。 Until this book came out, fans had only speculated what the timeline may be and how the Zelda games actually pieced together。 Thankfully, those questions were answered in the section of the book which broke down the entire timeline, from start to finish。 I also loved the manga at the end, which gave us a glimpse at the first "Link" and Hylia herself。 The artwork here was beautiful and even though it was a short story, it was still fun to read。 。。。more
